How We Calculate SR-22 Estimates
SR-22 cost estimates on this site use the same state-level base data and risk factors as our auto insurance estimates, adjusted for the higher-risk profile typically associated with drivers who need an SR-22.
Data sources: We start from published state-level average auto liability premiums (e.g. NAIC or state insurance department data). We then apply multipliers for age, driving history, and coverage level. For SR-22 situations, insurers often price at a higher risk tier; our estimates reflect that by using the same methodology as our auto estimates but in the context of drivers who have had a serious violation or suspension.
What we don’t do: We do not have access to your personal driving record or insurer-specific underwriting. These are educational ballpark estimates only. For an actual SR-22 filing and premium, you must get quotes from insurers.
See our main How We Calculate page for the general methodology, and our Sources page for data references.
